FoR the New Arrival

The arrival of a new baby is often a time of profound love and connection within families. But before you know it, little ones are up and grown. A Frame of Reference is a poignant way to celebrate a new arrival while safeguarding this precious moment in time.

This Frame was commissioned by a father-to-be who was all too aware of how quickly time flies when you are blessed with a new arrival. He wanted an artwork that would celebrate not only the birth of his daughter but that would commemorate the relationship he shares with his wife and the home they have spent so many years building together in anticipation of this time.

In the knowledge that these parents were calling their child Wren, we drew inspiration from the remarkable nest-making ability of the wren bird as it creates a safe haven for its eggs with great care.

We built a branch network that documents the meeting of Wren’s parents as the branches reach outwards, showing their adventures together over time. We then constructed a nest using artefacts from their shared lives, including music manuscript feathers into which a golden egg is nestled. This egg, representative of Wren herself is then banded with an exact replica of the wristband she was given when first born.

“The team made the process easy and exciting - Phil has a wonderful way of drawing out the real gems which made our piece extremely special. Whether it be the birth of a child, a marriage or even the passing of a loved one. Frames of reference is a wonderful way to remember these essential moments.” – Mark Wilson, London
